Made Solid is a home goods and accessories brand centered around the handmade leatherwork of owner/designer Peter Maxwell (Max). All leather pieces are made by by Max using the saddle making style of work he learned as a kid. All leathers are American steer hide, tanned in the US - using oak tree bark. Most dye, paint and pattern is done in-house. All sewing is done by hand, using a double needle saddle stitch.
Max sources and stocks additional items from friends and extended family in Japan, Mexico, Africa, Europe and North America.
The brand was founded in Los Angeles in 2014, opened it’s LA flagship in 2016 and expanded to additional retail/showroom locations in Tokyo, Paris and NYC.
We’ve downsized in the last few years and now have a single studio/retail location at 117 Bent St Taos NM.

A one-off take on the classic MS Stick Incense Burner - this time I’ve added old school western tooling and antique African trade beads on leather cord. The function is still there but it has just a little more flair.
The MS Stick Incense Burner has been conditioned with plant oils and beeswax. Heated ash from the incense falls on the leather, activating the wax and oils. A distinct freckled pattern develops over time. At times, very hot ash will slightly burn the face of the leather in a small spot. Though the leather does not catch fire, we advise never leaving burning incense of any kind unattended - with our burners or not.

“Stuff & Thangs and Thangs & Stuff“ is the opening line of Bold Soul Sister sung by Tina Turner - one of my favorite funk 45s. I always use this line when people ask what to use the MS trays for. I’ve finally spelled it out in laser etched glory. This theme may continue, but for now, it’s limited to this single tray….
